Would you like a second guitarist?

Postby Robmayn » Thu Jul 28, 2005 4:10 am

Ok, we all know something, and it is that Lordi is a COOL band, but what i have realized, and many of you have too, i think. Is that this in of the little metal bands with only one guitarist. Now, IMO, i dunno you, would like to see what will happen had a second guitarist, this to have a lead guitarist, being followed by the rythm. I really don't care if Mr. Amen would be lead, or rythm, just would like to see what happens. What do you think? Thoughts?

I always thought Lordi should have a second guitarist, live anyway...Never liked the idea of backing tracks.
It's never too late to bring one in... It took Iron Maiden 20 + years after their success to bring in a third guitarist. But Lordi must be doing fine now I guess with the live show. 6 members is alot though for a 'traditional hard rock band' So stick with the 5!
Led Zepp never had a second guitarist live and they still remaind HUGE.... even tho all I hear are horror stories of their past concerts... Tho Jimmy Page didn't use back tracks wich tells why. Cant have 500 guitars on an album and only use one live
RIP Jayjay. I love you

I don't know... Lordi make very little noticeable use of two guitars, we know Blood Red Sandman has two different guitar sounds in it and that Mr. Amen used a barritone guitar in The Monsterican Dream for behind solos and such.

Lordi aren't realy a solo group, if you get what I mean, there is not a lot of big solos like Guns n Roses and realy no need to have a second guitarist to add to the rhythm...

You could also imagine that because of these that the second guitarist would be prety much a second Be(a)st, you don't hear alot of people saying, "Oh dude that rhythm guitarist out of GNR is KILLER!" sure experienced fans would say he does a great job but he'd still be a second to the first guitarist.

I realy would not like to have a second guitarist in a band of mine, I like the idea of Guitarist and Bassist being a little duo in the act.

That said.

There'd be no need to make one guitarist "rhythm" and one "lead" explicitly though. After all a lot of metal bands have twin guitars, so that both guitarists get their fair turn in the spotlight and there's variety in the solos and leads.

Whether Lordi need a second guitarist is another matter. It might be good live, so as to take away some of the need for backing tracks, but I'm not sure that their studio sound needs anything added to it. Then again, I guess we'll never know unless the band decide to try it, in which case of course I'd be very keen to hear the results!

(Now I'm wondering, if Lordi found a new guitarist, what sort of monster would he/she/it be?)

I think that Lordi have managed okay without a second guitarist so far... I don't think they really need one. If they got another guitarist, I don't think it would be exactly fair. That is what I didn't like about G'n'R's, the fact that Slash got all the credit and the other guitarist didn't get any, well not as much. I wouldn't want that to happen with Mr. Amen and another dude :? ...

I agree with Fallen One.

In addition, I'ts the choice of Lordi himself, if there should be a second guitarist, or not.

yeah, I have to agree. Don't fix what ain't broken, y'know? But you have to admit, with a second guitarist Lordi could seriously widen their scope and take a little of the weight off of Mr. Amen. But yeah, I wouldn't complain if they had a second guitarist, y'know just to see what it would be like. If the whole concept bombed then they could always get rid of him/her.

Meh, I wouldn't actually like for them to add a second guitarist and if it doesn't work out removing him/her again.

Besides, if they were to add another guitarist, what monster would he or she represent? (Now don't start guessing, that's not what this thread is for  )

Anyways, Mr. Amen is doing fine, and I like the 5-headed MonsterSquad as it is. I doubt they need any changes, but in the end, the final decision is for the band to make.

I don't think there is any need for a second guitarist, things work great as they are Live, and on cd, so like Fallen One said, why change a winning team??

So we agreed then, we don't think that Lordi need a second guitarist. But if they do end up getting one then we are all willing to support there decision. I wonder what type of new Monster they would get?

I know I do :P but you would be an official Monster then because Lordi would have made you one. And plus you have been learning Lordi songs on Guitar for over a year now and I think you are qualified for the job ...

It was on track at first but then it got personal  . I really think that it is up to the band members whether they have a second guitarist. I wouldn't be mortified if they did get another one because it gives the band a change, I don't think that the band would need more than 5 members anyway.

If they don't get a new member then it wouldn't be a total loss. It would be the same band we grew to love and it means that we are doing what Mr. Fallen One wanted in the first place... keeping a winning team the same.

Yeah true words... and good call Fallen One.

Lordi survived the loss of a Bassist, they are a strong group and whatever they wish to do I'll stand by their decision... unless it has anything to do with large genitalea and green goo...

My vote's on "No" for this.

Some bands are good with a second guitarist (Trivium) because they can have duals but with Lordi I think it should just be Amen or it wouldn't sound as good.

How can you's say that about Guns and Roses Izzy was/is a great guitarist just because he did not play the solos live does not mean he is not good next you will be saying malcome young is not good cause he just plays chords and angus plays the solos there is more to playing guitar than 10 minute long steve vai solos. I vote no because i like the way the songs sound now but if the band felt they cause do more and expand with another guitar player why not?
