KALMA and MAGNUM interviews.

Postby SMF » Thu Sep 02, 2010 10:25 pm

i just came across these in my email...

Since I took Pyromite down, I thought it would be cool to repost the interviews I did with Kalma (after leaving Lordi) and Magnum back in '06.

1. How did you begin with Lordi?

Mr.Lordi asked me to join when Magnum was released from his duties. This was before the first show in 2002.

2. Were there any other character ideas before KALMA? And why was that
the chosen one?

I remember that we had no other idea, Kalma seemed like a cool character so we sticked with that..

3. Gotta ask it... Why did you leave the band? Has this been thought
about for a while?

I left for personal reasons and those reasons are personal...

4.You have once said that you are still involved with Lordi, only now
you work behind the scenes. What are you doing with em behind the scenes?

Little thing here and there...

5. You recently surprised fans when you came on stage at a gig and
played with the band again. Was that going to be a one time only thing?

I will perform some day again so it wasn't just one time thing. Some day
and some special place, that's when Kalma returns.

6. Is there anything you miss about playing with the band?

I will always miss playing with them. The best part were the fans in the
audience. It was also great to play Lordi-music. I'm a huge fan of Lordi
as well! And now it is possible for me to go to a gig and watch the show
from the audience!

7. Was there anything about touring that you didn't enjoy?

Waiting was always the worst part.

8. You and OX are said to be good friends. how do you guys know each
other? And did you have any effect on his joining the band?

I didn't have an effect on his joining, I just stated my opinion on the
case, but technically I wasn't in the band anymore when the decision was
made. We know each other from the various band projects. Ox is a great guy and great musician and we have nothing but big respect to each other!

9. What are your favorite songs off of The Arockalypse?

Right now it is probably "They only come out at night". I just love when
Udo sneaks in to the song! Also "Who's your daddy" is a great song.
Especially the lyrics..

10. What are you up to now aside from Lordi?

Right now I'm on a vacation, which is always nice by the way! I have
another band with mr.Kita, right now we are gathering new material and
start demoing it after the summer festival season. Kita will be pretty
busy with Lordi, but we do our thing when he has the time.

11. What other musicians over the course of being in Lordi have you met
that has been most
> interesting?

Twisted Sister and Nightwish guys. I'm a huge fan of the both..

12. Do you have any funny road stories?

I have lots of stories but unfortunately they almost everytime are too
difficult to explain to someone who was not present when those things
happened! There is also lots of stories that we will keep to ourselves, if
you know what I mean...

13. What was one of the most embarrassing moments involving a band?
(Lordi or other)

Actually there is no embarrasing moments with Lordi because in those masks and costumes you can do everything you want and get away with it as well!

14. Your character in Lordi was a Biker Zombie, do you actually own a

Lots of people have asked that question and here is the answer: No, I
don't own a motorcycle...YET! I will someday.
> If so what make?
If I would by a motorcycle now, it would be chopper with lots of painted
Kalma pics...

15. We all know you play bass. Do you have any other talents?

I can play little guitar(rhythm), little drums, sing, drink, party etc. :)

1. What is the most exciting thing to happen to you in the last week?

Vacation started.

2. Rate the following bands 1 - 10. 1 being AWFUL 10 being Gods of Gods

1.Twisted Sister -9
> 2. Accept -8
> 3. Las Ketchup -4
> 4. Alice Cooper -9
> 5.Metallica -8
> 6.Slipknot -5
> 7. Wig Wam -4
> 8.King Diamond -7
> 9. Pantera -7
> 10. KISS -10

3. If you were offered a TV/Radio show, what would it be called and what
would you do on it?

Definitely radio show called "Dead Kalm". Funny stories and guests with
some serious heavy metal music. Attitude: Have a good time, all the time!

4. What new band do you think just shouldn't exist?

No comments on that one. Every artist has a right to be heard. The
Idols-format worries me though...

5. Do you have any guilty pleasures?

Several. But I'm not going to reveal them to you...

6. Are there any bands that you haven't seen live that you would like

Metallica, Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne for starters...

7. If you were to put together a dream all-star band, who would be in

Kalma-bass, Lenny Kravitz-guitar, Tommy Lee-drums, Mr.Kita-vocals.

8. What is your favorite food/ drink (alocholic & non-aloholic)?

Food: Meat in all forms. Drink: Karhu -beer(karhu is finnish, means bear...)

9. What is your worst fear?

10. Do you visit PYROMITE?

Yes I do. I try to visit the fansites as often as possible.

11. Any words to the fans?

Stay true to the heavy metal and Lordi!! Take care and see you!

1.Thanks very much for doing this for PYROMITE, Magnum!

Thank you Jeff. It’s a pleasure to do this interview!

2. What are you up to now?

Right now I’m working with my new band called “Shackle Me Not”. We’re busy writing material and recording demos of new songs in our home studio.

3. What kind of music will this be?

It’s a little bit difficult to describe, but I’d say it’s hard rock with a twist of punk.

4. Are you playing bass in this band as well?

Yes I am. On the demos I’ve played a lot of guitar and did the sequencer tracks as well.

5. I love the name. How did it come up?

It just suddenly popped up out of nowhere while we were having a beer outside a pub with Jesse from Shackle Me Not. Don’t even remember which one of us said it first. We love the name too!

6. You are the most mysterious member of Lordi's past and present. Can you tell us some things about yourself?

Let’s not spoil the mystery!

7. I couldn't agree more! But can you tell us what band influenced you to play music?

Definitely KISS. I’ve always been a huge fan of Iron Maiden as well. Other cool acts that have influenced me are: Judas Priest, WASP, Twisted Sister, GN’R, Mötley Crüe, Accept, Bon Jovi and Metallica. I also remember listening to a bunch of hair bands in late 80’s early 90’s like L.A. Guns, Poison, etc.

8. How did you get together with Lordi in the beginning?

I met Mr Lordi back in 1995, I believe, through KISS Army International. I was the director of the Finnish seat of the fan club and Mr Lordi was a fan of KISS. He contacted me and we decided to have a KISS fan club of our own, so we formed KISS Army Finland. We became good buddies and Mr Lordi had had this idea of a band. There was a vacancy for a bass player, so he asked me to join. At that point Amen and Enary were already in the band. Later on we auditioned Kita to become our drummer. Actually we were first thinking of playing without a drummer using DAT or sequencers.

9. Do you keep in contact with Lordi?

Yeah, sure. But not that often these days, since Lordi is busy with his band and I’m with mine. Also, my work consumes a lot of my time. Lately I’ve been supplying gear for Lordi, like flight cases my company manufactures and guitar pics with logos, etc. We get together with Amen every now and then.

10. You have a manufacturing company? How did that get started?

Well, I wanted to form a company that would supply all kinds of tour stuff for bands like flight cases, backstage passes, guitar pics with logos and tour itineraries to name a few. I’ve always been interested in music business and I find touring and everything around it really fascinating.

11. Are there any live memories you have of playing with Lordi?
No, not really. I only played “live” with Lordi on presentations to BMG Finland, the record company, and to the producers. It was a sort of a showcase. But no actual shows with the band.

12. What do you think of the current Lordi line-up?

I think it’s the best looking line-up so far and they also sound great. The new album is awesome!

13. Were there any other past Lordi members before the Lordi, Kita, Amen, Enary, Magnum era?

yes, there were a few other fellows who played before, but they all left because they decided to work in a “proper job”.

14. Why did you leave the band?

Time was a big issue. In those days I was the only member with a regular job. At that time there wasn’t any money coming in from Lordi so I couldn’t afford to quit my job and just play rock n’ roll. Therefore it was not easy to fit in rehearsals, etc.

15. Do you still have the costume?

Yeah, sure do. A piece of memorabilia I thought I should keep. Besides, most of it was made by me anyway, so why leave it behind. In those days I was really eager to build and create all kinds of stuff. I helped build a lot of the stage props that were used on stage later on, like the towers, etc.

16. What would you say is your favourite track off of Get Heavy?

Probably won’t be a big surprise to anyone… definitely “Would You Love a Monsterman?”!!! Besides, it’s the only CD-single with my face on it, which is always a good reason to like it!

17. Will we be seeing you in anything Lordi related soon?

There is nothing planned at this point.

18. Okay, that's all! Do you have anything more to say or promote?

Everybody interested in Magnum should check out “Shackle Me Not”. It’s gonna kick some serious butt!
RIP Jayjay. I love you

Well, the main reason being the site crashed and I simply had no time to rebuild such a huge site like that again.

Not due to legal reason like someone once mentioned here before... Pyromite had full support by Mr. Lordi who even requested that it be the official USA fanclub.

Ah, thank you for telling :)
It's a shame, I remember I often checked back to see if any more interviews popped up, it was a really good site.

Are there plans for rebuilding it and hosting it again?

Interesting interviews! I didn't know there were other ex-members before Magnum and G-Stealer! I'd love to see Kalma on the stage! He's sooo awesome :D
