Learning standard notation is much harder than Tabs, but there is never any ambiguity as to what something means, which is good. Once you know where your fingers go on the fretboard for a chord, and you know what it looks like in standard notation, you're away. I'm lucky to have learned to play the keyboard from the age of about 8, which means I can read music, and it makes guitar playing easier

One thing to point out is that on some tab sites, for a song there may be a chord 'tab' for want of a better word. This is where the lyrics will be written out, with the chord names above, eg

Eb F Gm
... fool for your lovin no more

You play the chord as you sing the word or letter ie the Gm (m is minor) would be played on more. This is a much more simple way of learning a song, and is mostly used with acoustic guitars.

I dont know if this helps, but a free program for all you talented guitar players .

Tux-Guitar
Create and print guitar music and tablature

http://www.computeractive.co.uk/computeractive/downloads/2160870/tuxguitar

the blurb says:-
Tux-Guitar is a complete composition tool for guitarists that can be used to create tablature from ordinary notation.

As well as recording and printing music, Tux-Guitar can be used as a practice tool as it can scroll automatically.

There is a fretboard view for working out the different notes used in a chord. Chords can also be constructed with the chord tool.

Other guitar specific effects such as bending strings and vibrato are also supported.

Files saved in the gp3 and gp4 formats as created by the Guitar Pro software from Arobas Music can be used. Tux-Guitar can save to those formats.

Tux-Guitar is written in Java and there are versions available for Mac and Linux as well as Windows.

Hahaha, I was wondering why that tab didn't have any chords in it :P ... It took me a few seconds to realise it was a Bass tab :D .

Nice work ^^ Now I might actualy start learning more Bass guitar.

And Orbett : Can you read musical notation? I can give you a few keyboard tabs for Lordi songs but it's very hard to read unless you can understand musical notation...
