How do you pronounce...

Postby Orbett » Sat Jul 22, 2006 5:30 pm

How do you pronounce Amen and Kita?

Kita-Is it (Kee-ta, or Kit-a)

Amen-Is it (Aw-men, or A-men)?

Sorry, I know it's not that important, but I'm the kind of person who takes great interest in small details.
I see the world but as the world -
A stage, where every many must play a part...
And mine a sad one.

In "Theatrical Trailer" (or Threatrical as it's apparently spelled), all band members names are pronounced. Well, not OX's (but that's pretty obious) and Awa's (which still remains a mystery to me - is it Ay-wah, or Ah-wah?).

It's

"Ay-men" and "Key-tah", or at least that's how the voice pronounces it.

i've never really thought about it. i always pronounce it ah-wah. but it could be ay-wah.

zane lowe was interviewing mr lordi and awa on gonzo after they won eurovision and he pronounced it both ways and awa and lordi just laughed. they didn't actually say how it is pronounced.

on a BBC interview they said: "im now talking to 'Ay-Wah', is that right?"
Then Awa said: "yes that's right"
So i always call her 'Ay-Wah' after hearing that....i used to say 'Ah-Wah' though...

En-Ah-Ree

But then, just because I pronounce it like so in an English way, doesn't mean someone from a different country will read it the same (if you get what I mean) ;)

I know you can pronounce Mr. Amen as either Ay-men or Ah-men (silent H sound) as they are both the English (UK) and English (US) pronunciation versions.

As for Lady. Awa I am still partial to saying Aw-wah.

Yeah, it kind of depends on where someone comes from. If I speak english, then I pronounce it the "english" way, but in estonian the pronounciation is way different :P
"Mummy, I'm 15 now, can I wear a bra?"
"Shut up John."

Well, Mr. Lordi called Awa, Ay-va in an interview on 'Popworld', so I'm guessing he's right :D

It's really hard to explain. I can't write the pronounciation, because it might look the same, but it sounds really different. I could try and stick up a clip in my new vid, where I pronounce them all in english and then in estonian, if you'd like to?

I'm confused.
So whats right and whats not? :D

I would say:
Ah-wah and Ah-men. And Kita just as you spell it?

Could we ask the band to say their names lound and clear and then post it here? I think the loyale Lordi fans should at least be able to speak their names correctly

I Say:

Lordi - Lord-E
Amen - A-men
Kita - key-ta
Awa - A-wa
OX - ox

(The capital letters "A" and "E" above are pronounced as letters and not the sound the letter makes)
(A = A Not A = Ah)

Hard to explain :D

Since theyre Finnish names,

Lordi - would be Lor-di (to get the two consonants together you have to sound each, stupid I know)

Kita- I'd always assumed Key-ta

Awa - It's just Av-va (again Finnish, again blame the fact I'm learning it)

OX - Just OX

Amen - Ay-men

On the subject of pronunciation I love the way some Finnish pronounce Iron like I-ron not like Ion... I think that's cool.

Haha any word with R in it is fun to hear from a Finn! Such a cool accent.

(may want to veer slightly back on topic)
